I am first and foremost a follower of Jesus and through Him a child of God! Then I am the husband to a lovely wife called Rachel. I’m the pastor of a small church in Hertford, and very much a part-time musician! I am neither a brilliant guitarist or singer, but I love to write songs from the heart that express my thanks and worship to Jesus, and so my songs represent the deepest yearnings of my heart. They are like poor psalms written by me (not a patch on David!) from my own experience as a sinner, and yet a sinner intensely loved by God and pursued in grace. I love Him because He first loved me. In the words of the best psalmist:
“He brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song on my mouth- Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear and will trust in the LORD”. (Psalm 40:2-3)
My desire is that Jesus will be trusted in and cherished through my life, witness, conversation, preaching, and songs.
My relationship with God and His Son, Jesus Christ, adds colour to the rest of life and so I love music, nature, food, books, films, friends, family and my wife more because I know it all comes from Him.
I first of all want to thank Colin Owen for kicking off this project several years ago after a nudge from the Lord. The Lord nudged him and then he kindly pushed (a reluctant) me and offered to record this album for free- as an offering to the Lord. And not only that, but he pushed me along all the way which I very much needed, and so in more than one way this album wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for him. So Colin, thank you for your vision, faithfulness to the Lord, for the hours of work you put in with me and behind the scenes editing and producing the album, and for playing all kinds of instruments on the album!
I would also like to thank Ben Burnett for all the time he put in on the art and design work for the album and website- in addition to playing guitar on the album and many other valuable contributions. Ben is a true legend and a good friend that I thank God for!
A big thank you also to Dan Coward who played drums on the album, and to my brother, John who did backing vocals. I have always loved singing with my brother and hearing his fantastic harmonies. John, thank you also for pushing me along in this project. Without John’s persistent nagging the album may never have seen the light of day- so thank you, bro!
I’d like to also thank my good friends Rob, James, and Paul who have encouraged me to not hide my small gift of song-writing under a bushel. I really appreciate you all.
To my wife, my parents, and other friends who have encouraged me along the way- thank you. And to my Lord and Saviour – to whom I owe my all and who is the inspiration of every song – I give thanks and I dedicate this album to Him with the prayer that He would use it even in some way to bring glory to His Name and joy to those who trust in Him.
